A home away from home

“A home away from home” – that was the heartfelt promise of shipowner Tom Schröder, as he prepares for an extended journey aboard the luxury yacht Maverick. Fascinated by the radiance and versatility of Occhio lighting, which he already enjoys in his private residences, he was certain the luminaires must accompany him onto the open sea. At the heart of this design lies the sophisticated Mito series, which lends a uniquely elegant atmosphere to many key spaces on board. Bathed in natural light during the day, Maverick truly comes into its own after sunset, when Occhio’s lighting softly dances across the waves, enhancing the yacht’s charm and creating an unforgettable ambience.

Yachts are normally built with the same lighting throughout, but for the Maverick, each space was designed independently. From the spacious lounge deck, guests can step into the dining area, where the Mito cosmo move luminaires are suspended at varying heights, mimicking the gentle ebb and flow of the waves. These motorised light rings can be seamlessly retracted into the ceiling during the journey, ready to reappear effortlessly when needed. The warm, intimate glow of the Mito cosmo move infuses the space with a sense of home, even amidst the vastness of the open sea. This inviting scene is complemented by lui alto spotlights framing the room, their precise beams adding depth and focus through carefully placed accents. The spotlight design has been meticulously crafted, featuring a sleek matt-black body and a zoom lens with a phantom finish, giving the luminaire a sophisticated and refined aesthetic.

The corridors are illuminated by staggered Mito soffitto on the ceiling. The lively string of light ultimately ends with two Mito soffitto luminaires on the wall, creating an additional highlight at the end of the hall. Like an exceptional pendant on a delicate necklace, Mito cosmo move is revealed in radiant bronze in the intimate darkness of the dressing room.

The bathrooms highlight one of the many special solutions developed by Occhio for this unique project. The Mito sfera su luminaire, mounted on openable mirrors, ensures your face is beautifully illuminated, thanks to specially designed cable management. This innovative feature underscores the adaptability and versatility of the Mito series, delivering the perfect lighting for any setting or situation. As a distinct category within the collection, Mito luminaires epitomise unmatched functional and aesthetic excellence, bearing Occhio’s signature blend of sophistication and innovation.

In the hallways, strings of Mito soffitto luminaires guide the way, while in the bedrooms, they greet residents with an arrangement that feels almost accidental. Delicate light rings take pride of place at the centre of the room, while spotlights from the lui series provide subtle illumination around the edges. The Mito soffitto cluster has been thoughtfully positioned at the foot of the bed, offering soft, indirect lighting that enhances the room’s inviting atmosphere. For those who prefer to add focused light, the lui pico spotlights above the bedside tables are an ideal choice. Designed in matt black with a phantom-finished zoom lens, they maintain a cohesive aesthetic while delivering precision and style.

On deck, the light plays flirtatiously with the water. The outdoor areas feature Mito sfera cut luminaires elegantly recessed into the slatted ceiling, each encircled by a tinted mirror that enhances the feeling of being enveloped by the sea. Here, the holistic vision of the lighting concept comes to life: the recurring circular motif of the Mito series creates seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces, merging them into a harmonious, unified design. The element of water is further echoed in the reflections cast by the Mito soffitto luminaires on deck. Custom-made specifically for the yacht, these mirrors amplify the interplay of light and water, adding a bespoke touch to the maritime ambience.
